A braille editor is needed for a number of reasons not the least of which is to
make corrections to existing BRF files as well as generating such files by
hand. A Braille editor will permit six/eight key corded entry with is more
natural method of entering Braille. A Braille editor will honour the cells per
line and lines per page of BRF file Thus preventing the inadvertent corruption
of BRF files. A Braille editor will by it's nature display Braille on the
screen as well as on refreshable displays as Braille.

Braille, unlike most print computer documents has set number of cells and lines
which generally can not be soft waraped as text files generally are.

Page numbers are still placed on the same line as text in most Braille
publication.

Fundamentally the Braille editor is a computer version of a Braille writer. A
simple means of manually creating or editing a Braille ready file. Unlike other
such editor, PerkyDuck from Duxbury for example this editor will not be tied to
a translator program but will be usable as a stand alone product.

I'm curious why a braille editor is needed. There are number of powerful
free text editors with Notepad++, which supports plugins, being the current
favorite.

The only difference I've ever found between braille and print document
formatting is that braille sometimes puts body text on the header along with
page numbers. This is or was done to save space in embossed volumes. Is
this still done?
