From looking at the NEWS file of automake it looks like they are
deprecating obsolete features quite aggressively. So building liblouis
from svn with automake 1.13 and possibly even with 1.12 will not work,
unless we change configure.ac. This however means that you will no
longer be able to build from svn with old versions of automake, i.e.
John will no longer be able to build from svn. Not something we really
want.
It looks like the next Debian will still ship with with 1.11.x version
of automake, so not everybody is moving to modern versions of automake
right away, so we have some time to do the migration.
I would recommend that you try to install automake 1.11.x and try to
build with that.
