Hi Steve, Here are a couple of dew drop covered roses I think illustrate what I meant about getting closer. Both were shot with the 100 2.8 macro on an R8... (with a macro adapter added for the real close up.) #2The shallow depth of focus of #2 is caused by shooting wide open at 2.8 or f 4.0.
http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/Dr_+Ted+Grant/%232+--+rose+petal+dew+drops.jpg.htmlOne thing we have to be careful of is which element, usually the nearest petal or water drop to the camera, I'll say, must be in focus! Not always, but 99.9% when one get's into close-ups or like your rose, the latest one . The closest petal is out of focus and beomes a visual distraction, rather than the key point or a supporting part of the main photo object.
I hope these give a better example of what I was trying to say. cheers, ted----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Barbour" <steve.barbour@xxxxxxxxx>
