 Good Day Flexers.

I'm just revisiting the classics of the photography, learned long ago. I'm not
very fond of filters but the polarizing filter is a "must have", I suppose.

In the time of the Film Era, I had one in my bag along with "tobacco", useful
for blue landscapes. Now with the "white balance" to be set as needed, these
tobacco are obsolete, sold...

Of course my "Pola" is Circular, not too sure it would work with the Digilux3
light meter, sin ome article I read, it spoke of the Linear as best choice.

To make short a long story, I blew away the dust over the case of 55mm filter
and find out an astute Chinese Entrepreneur in Shangai offering a step up 43mm
to 55mm for 1.5 Euros (ship&tax included), it took me a Fiver at the local
Portuguese Pub to toast the good deal, a pint in hand....

It fits nicely, although this image shows the step up filter loosely set over
the CPL filter:

Today, sunshine, off the street to try out. Just in front of my home, ideal
subject:
Without:

With the CPL to its max effect:

Works fine here I think.

--> All reflections are gone but if you see on the right of the image, the
black bars of the fence of the house show more details.

Another Go, without:

With CPL:

--> A blueish sky and nicer colors.

Using the same camera I had shot this with the Angenieux 35 x 2 and a polarizer

Bluer and nicer IMHO too - yet highlights might be a problem as well as
metering.

Of course, you will say that God Photoshop or its Demon Silkypix can do equal.
That's not my opinion when the filter remove the reflections...

Other than that, I tried a Yellow filter (55mm too), used as some may recall,
in the days of B&W films, to enhance the sky and the contrast. Er, no interest
at all, the White balance system corrects automatically the cast!

You surprise me Xavier - I shot hundreds of RAWs that turned out yellow with a
yellow filter on the L1

And for B&W, a good dose of Hygh Dynamic Range plus fiddling with the curves,
it gives a far better result...

Silverfast is the way to go for BW from what I see and read from other groups.

Plus the fact that the camera has a 'B&W Dynamic', I speak of the Digilux 3 as
'my' camera, of course.

But in my opinion, the CPL filter creates a mess with the Autofocus system, may
be because it is Circular rather than Linear. Your widsom is much appreciated
here :)

No experience with the AF as the pola I have only fits my fully manual Angie

Keep experimenting Xavier

Amitiés
Philippe

OH, BTW, the car is not mine, it was parked in front of my house, over the
street.

Have a nice week.
