One of the hazards of riding bulls is that you try to stay on by holding on to a rope that's wrapped around the bull with one hand, while trying not to touch the bull with your free hand. When you're tossed off, there is a risk that your hand can get caught in in that rope. This can result in a ride of the most uncomfortable kind... and one which can last up to a minute, or more, as the bullfighters try to calm the bull and help release the cowboy's hand. (Not an easy task!) Common repercussions from this are broken wrists, fingers, arms and dislocated or even broken shoulders.
