It's not Mardi Gras in Hawaii. They're a few species of sea birds in the Sulidae family, which includes Gannets. Near the Sea Life marine theme park on the windward side of Oahu are a couple of islands where the Red-footed Boobies nest, along with other marine bird species. The Boobies often fly past the the windward shore of Oahu at close range: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/sulidae/rfbo00.jpg http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/sulidae/rfbo01.jpg Brown Boobies are occasionally seen as well: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/sulidae/brbo00.jpg The Red-crested Cardinal is a common land bird in Hawaii. This species is native to South America: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/cardinalidae/rcca01.jpg and more common by far than the Cardinal is the Common Mynah, also not native to the Hawaiian islands: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/sturnidae/comy00.jpg http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/sturnidae/comy01.jpg http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/sturnidae/comy02.jpg Doug Herr Birdman of Kailua http://www.wildlightphoto.com ========================================================= To Unsubscribe: Send email to leica-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field.
