Greetings All:

I wandered about Lubbock on 24 December, from 8:00 to 3:15, visiting (in
order of visit) Maxey Park, Leftwich Park, Casey Park, Earl Crow Park,
McCullough Park, Guy Park, Lakeridge Golf Coures, Stevens Park, Jennings
Park, McAlister Park, Miller Park, Andrews Park, Huneke Park, Leroy Elmore
Park, Dupree Park, Higginbotham Park, Whisperwood Pond, the TTU Sewage
Ponds, and Clapp Park - picking up 72 species of birds without leaving the
city limits.

Kostecke will be relieved to know that, despite carefully examining every
freaking goose in town, I did not come across a Brant (nor any of the other
species I still lack for the year). With one of my three days of birding
left for the year almost used up (not I saved two hours so that I could
chase the next in-town rarity), I remain at 299 species for my region.

Andrews Park produced but one highlight: 4 Redheads.

There were no highlights at Casey Park.

Clapp Park highlights were 1 Peregrine Falcon and 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch.

Dupree Park highlights were 1 Greater White-fronted Goose, 4 Snow Geese, 3
Ross's Geese, and 1 Merlin.

Earl Crow Park highlights were 2 Greater White-fronted Geese, 2 Snow Geese,
and 1 Ross's Goose.

Guy Park highlights were 1 Snow Goose, 2 Ross's Geese, 2 Inca Doves, and 3
Cedar Waxwings.

The sole Higginbotham Park highlight: 1 Snow Goose.

Huneke Park highlights were 2 Greater White-fronted Geese, 3 Snow Geese, 1
Ross's Goose, and 2 mystery geese (still waiting on some expert opinions of
the photographs I took - probably some oddball hybrid).

Jennings Park highlights were 2 Greater White-fronted Geese, 3 Snow Geese,
3 Ross's Geese, and 1 Hermit Thrush [hanging out in a bush (loaded with red
berries) with a veritable horde of American Robins].

Lakeridge Golf Course had but one highlight: 1 male Common Merganser.

Leftwich Park had but one highlight: 2 Greater Yellowlegs.

Leroy Elmore Park yielded but one highlight: 12 Wood Ducks.

Maxey Park yielded but one highlight: 2 Snowy Egrets.

McAlister Park highlights were 1 Greater White-fronted Goose, 1 Ross's
Goose, 1 American White Pelican, and 1 Greater Yellowlegs.

McCullough Park highlights were 1 Snow Goose, 1 Snowy Egret, and 1
Orange-crowned Warbler.

Miller Park highlights were 1 Greater White-fronted Goose and 3 Least
Sandpipers.

Stevens Park had but one highlight: 1 Snow Goose.

The TTU Sewage Ponds were rocking with 56 Canvasbacks, 148 Redheads, and 2
Eared Grebes as highlights.

Whisperwood Pond highlights were 1 Snow Goose and 4 Redheads.
