Hello Everyone,

and free food wasn't enough, we also have a gratuitous number of door
prizes, including books, developer tools and lots of other stuff.
Registration and refreshments start at 6:00 PM; the presentation starts at
6:30 PM. Please RSVP Matthew Hughes (mat_hues@xxxxxxxxxxx
<mailto:mat_hues@xxxxxxxxxxx?subject=LANUG%20RSVP%20-%208/29/2006> ) and let
him know if you are planning to attend so he can order the appropriate
refreshments. Also, help us spread the word; tell all of your friends and
colleagues about this meeting. Better yet, bring them along with you to the
meeting.

As a program note, our scheduled speaker, Joe Healy had to cancel due to
TS/Hurricane Ernesto. Fortunately, we were able to get Keith Elder to fill
in for Joe. Keith presented at the Memphis .NET code camp this past weekend
and has a great presentation, with tons of source code examples, on building
smart clients. He also has a lot of enterprise-level application
development experience. Please see the info on his presentation and on him
below. You won't want to miss this one. I look forward to seeing everyone
there.

Building and deploying Smart Clients in the Enterprise
In this session you will learn a practical and best practices approach to
building and deploying Smart Clients in the Enterprise. Maybe you've heard
of Smart Clients and maybe you haven't. Or maybe you are an Asp.Net
developer who has come to realize you spend 5% of your time writing logic
for your web application, and the remaining 95% of your time trying to make
it function like a Smart Client. Whatever the case is, the fact remains that
we use Smart Clients everyday and they are here to stay. Although we'll
cover briefly an intro to Smart Clients, this session picks up where others
leave off with real world knowledge and best practices you can use. In this
session we are going to cover everything from the ground up starting with
why you should consider leveraging Smart Clients more in the Enterprise to
how to get started structuring a three tiered architecture for your
solution. We'll also cover how to deploy your application using ClickOnce
with signed certificates and how to provide automatic updates through
ClickOnce. You'll walk away with real world Enterprise knowledge you'll be
able to use immediately when you sit back down in your money making cube
ready to start coding.
