This has been a busy summer for all of us and I am very pleased to announce the addition of 7 new applications that support LandXML 1.0 - all announced in the past 30 days. This brings us up to 27 total LandXML supported software applications. I have to say that I am very proud of our accomplishments - the largest of which is putting competitive differences aside and working together for the good of the industry. Two of the new applications are GIS applications that are now directly leveraging design data. I think this is very exciting and confirms the notion that cross discipline data exchange is here and now. We have had many discussions about how GIS, engineering design and survey data could work together to provide extraordinary leverage to customers. I think we can do better - in fact, I know we can. We have a new opportunity to make GIS and design data interoperability a reality with an upcoming project called TransXML ( <http://trb.org/nchrp> http://trb.org/nchrp, "20-64 XML Schemas for Exchange of Transportation Data"). LandXML.org and OpenGIS will work together to contribute to this new effort and I welcome any input or thoughts you may have. Regards, Nathan Crews www.landxml.org
