Wet & Windy Weather Tonight through Tuesday
Impacts
· Precipitation:
o Flash flood watch for Klondike/Taylor and Chetco wildfire burn scars.
Landslides and debris flows are possible.
o Ponding of water on roads due to locally heavy rain. Urban flooding
possible for communities along the coast and into Josephine and Douglas
counties, especially if there are clogged storm drains.
o Local rock falls are possible on roadways, especially for roads near the
coast.
· Strong winds:
o Strong winds will make travel difficult, especially for high profile
vehicles.
o Power outages and downed trees are possible with strong winds.
· High surf:
o High surf will cause waves to run up on the beaches higher than normal and
will be hazardous to beachgoers. Powerful waves may sweep people off jetties
and off rocks. Waves may move logs or large debris on the beaches.
o Dangerous sneaker waves are possible along area beaches.
o Bar crossings and the surf zone will be hazardous.
Forecast Confidence
· Heavy Rain: High confidence for moderate to heavy rain along the coast and
into the coastal mountains with peak rainfall occurring late tonight into
Tuesday afternoon.

over the higher terrain east of the Cascades. Moderate to high confidence for
advisory level winds for mountains west of the Cascades and into the Illinois
Valley as well for valleys east of the Cascades.
· High Surf: High confidence for dangerous surf through tonight and again on
Wednesday.
Timing and Strength
· Heavy Rain:
o 2 to 5 inches of rainfall along the coast and into the coastal mountains.
Heaviest rainfall rates are expected late tonight through early Tuesday morning
along the coast. Rainfall rates of 0.3 to 0.5 inches per hour are possible,
especially in the coastal mountains of Curry and extreme western Josephine
counties.
· Moderate Precipitation inland:
o Moderate precipitation of 0.5 to 2 inches across western Siskiyou,
Josephine, and Douglas counties as well as across the southern Oregon Cascades.

peak Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening.

o Snow levels for inland areas will rise from 4500 to 5000 feet tonight to
6500 to 7500 feet Tuesday afternoon and evening as precipitation becomes
widespread over the area. Snow levels may be slower to rise in the areas near
Mount Shasta, staying down around 5000 to 5500 feet Tuesday morning into
Tuesday afternoon before rising early Tuesday evening.
· Winds:
o Coast: South 35-45 with gusts to 60 mph this evening into Tuesday
afternoon.
o Shasta Valley: South 25-35 with gusts to 50 mph tonight into Tuesday
afternoon.

Weather Summary
A strong and wet storm will bring precipitation and wind impacts to the area.
Heavy rain along with strong winds and high surf conditions are expected along
the coast. Inland, expect areas of moderate to locally heavy precipitation
along with areas of strong winds. Winds and rain will develop along the coast
later today and increase tonight into Tuesday, peaking late tonight through
early Tuesday afternoon. Inland, winds will increase ahead of the front this
evening into Tuesday, peaking Tuesday morning and afternoon. Areas of moderate
precipitation are expected inland from the Cascades west. Heavy to moderate
rain along the coast and inland may lead to ponding on roadways, sharp rises on
area rivers and local rockfalls on roadways. Additionally heavy rain rates in
the coastal mountains may bring flash flood or debris flows to the
Klondike/Taylor and Chetco burn scars. Strong winds may result in power
outages, trees down, and difficult travel conditions.
