Here's another update for Monday's winter storm. Snow levels will vary by area
and throughout the day, lowering our confidence in snow amounts for the lower
elevations east of the Cascades and for Siskiyou Summit on I-5.

Update #2...Winter Storm on Monday
Impacts
· Snow:
o Heavy snow accumulations will occur on the Cascade passes from Highway 140
northward, including Crater Lake and Diamond Lake.
o Significant snow is forecast on Highway 97 between Chiloquin and Crescent,
especially in the Chemult area.
o Significant snow will occur east of the Cascades impacting the passes on
Highway 140 and the City of Lakeview. The Warner Mountains and Cedar Pass will
receive heavy snow with significant amounts expected in the City of Alturas.
o Siskiyou Summit on I-5 could see up to a few inches of snow Monday morning
before turning to rain by midday and then to snow showers late in the day.
Forecast Confidence
· Snow: Moderate confidence for amounts above 4500 feet.
· Snow: Low to moderate confidence for eastside valleys including Klamath
Falls (1 ½ inches forecast), Lakeview (4 inches forecast), and Alturas (4
inches forecast) due to snow levels forecast near these city elevations.
Timing and Strength
· Snow:
o 8 to 12 inches expected Monday for the high passes north of Highway 140.
o From Chiloquin to Chemult and Crescent there could be 4 to 6 inches.
o 8-12 inches likely for the Warner Mountains including Cedar Pass.
o 4-6 inches likely along the Highway 140 passes including Quartz Mountain.
· Snow levels:
o Snow levels will mainly range between 4000 and 4500 feet Monday morning then
rise to 4500 to 5500 feet in the afternoon with the highest snow levels in the
Siskiyous and western Siskiyou County. Snow levels will then lower late in the
day and evening to near 4000 feet.
Weather Summary
A low pressure system will strengthen as it approaches the southern Oregon
coast Monday morning and then drop into northern California by Christmas Eve.
Wintry driving conditions are expected on many of the high passes in southern
Oregon and northern California. Various winter storm warnings and winter
weather advisories are in effect through Christmas Eve.
