BMW fährt im Autogeschäft etwas weniger Gewinn ein
Schlechtere Geschäfte in den USA, höhere Rabatte und steigende Kosten haben BMW
im ersten Quartal zu schaffen gemacht. In der zentralen Autosparte sackte der
Gewinn vor Zinsen und Steuern (Ebit) unerwartet um 1,7 Prozent auf gut 1,76
Milliarden Euro ab, obwohl der Konzern mit fast 558.000 Fahrzeugen so viel
verkaufte wie nie zuvor. Allerdings wurden mehr günstigere Kompaktmodelle
ausgeliefert. "Entscheidend ist für uns nicht der kurzfristige Erfolg, sondern
nachhaltiges und profitables Wachstum", betonte Vorstandschef Harald Krüger und

Car2go in Zukunft auch mit A- und B-Klasse
Die Daimler-Tochter Car2go baut ihr Geschäftsmodell aus. "Wir werden bei Car2go
ab spätestens Mitte Juli zusätzlich zum Smart auch die
Mercedes-Benz-Kompaktwagen der A- und B-Klasse sowie den GLA und den CLA
anbieten", kündigte Car2go-Geschäftsführer Roland Keppler gegenüber der
Branchen- und Wirtschaftszeitung "Automobilwoche" an. Die 300 neuen Fahrzeuge
werden in Berlin eingesetzt, weitere Städte sollen zeitnah folgen.

Autoproduktion um 15 Prozent gestiegen
Im zurückliegenden Jahr sind in Ostdeutschland deutlich mehr Autos hergestellt
worden als noch 2014. Insgesamt sind dem Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA)
zufolge rund 837.000 Einheiten in den neuen Bundesländern von den Bändern
gerollt, ein Zuwachs von 15 Prozent. Damit kommt jedes siebte Auto hierzulande
aus dem Osten. Der Umsatz der Autobranche legte um zehn Prozent auf 25,5
Milliarden Euro zu. In den ostdeutschen Ländern entfallen auf die

Kfz-Zulieferer SHW verbessert Marge
Der Automobilzulieferer SHW hat in den ersten drei Monaten dieses Jahres trotz
eines Umsatz- und Gewinnrückgangs die operative Marge gesteigert und seine
Prognose für das Gesamtjahr bekräftigt. Der Konzernumsatz betrug 106,6
Millionen Euro, verglichen mit 117 Millionen Euro im Vorjahreszeitraum. Das
bereinigte EBITDA sank leicht von 11 auf 10,8 Millionen Euro. Die operative
Marge stieg von 9,4 auf 10,1 Prozent. Der Quartalsgewinn ging aufgrund höherer

Autohersteller setzen auf Kameras statt Spiegel
Kameras als Spiegelersatz im Auto gibt es zwar bislang nur bei Studien und
Kleinserien, aber dank steigender Rechenleistung und sinkender Preise gewinnen
sie an Attraktivität. Dem Fahrer winken bessere Aussichten und weniger
Verbrauch. Laut Elmar Frickenstein, der bei BMW die Elektronik-Entwicklung
verantwortet, dürfte es bis zum großflächigen Einsatz der digitalen Spiegel im

Vaillant: Heizwärme aus der Brennstoffzelle
Der Heizgerätehersteller Vaillant will im Herbst sein Brennstoffzellen-BHKW
xcellPower lancieren, wie Technik-Geschäftsführer Norbert Schiedeck bei der
Jahrespressekonferenz des Unternehmens am 2. Mai ankündigte. Die
Brennstoffzelle sei ein "hochattraktives Produkt", aktuell am Heizungsmarkt
aber nur eine Nischentechnik. Wenn es nicht gelinge, die Kosten drastisch zu
reduzieren, werde es die Brennstoffzelle schwer haben, konstatierte Schiedeck.

BMW generates lower profit in auto segment
In the first quarter, BMW struggled with weaker business in the U.S., higher
discounts and rising costs. In its automotive core division, ebit unexpectedly
dropped 1.7 percent to some 1.76 billion euros, despite the fact that the group
sold almost 558,000 vehicles in the period, more than ever before. These
included more low-cost compact models, however. "For us the decisive point is
not short-term success but sustainable and profitable growth," stressed CEO

Car2go to offer A- and B-Class vehicles in future
Daimler subsidiary Car2go is expanding its business model. "As of mid-July at
the latest, Car2go will offer Mercedes-Benz compact cars of the A- and B-Class
as well as the GLA and CLA, in addition to the Smart," Car2go managing director
Roland Keppler told "Automobilwoche". An initial 300 new vehicles will be

Vehicle production up 15 percent
Vehicle production in eastern Germany was significantly higher last year than
in 2014. According to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA),
some 837,000 units were produced in the region, 15 percent more than a year
earlier. This means one in seven cars in Germany is produced in the eastern
states. The industry's overall revenues rose ten percent to 25.5 billion euros.
In eastern German states, the auto industry accounts for 13 percent of

Automotive supplier SHW improves margin
Automotive supplier SHW managed to increase its operating margin in the first
three months of the year, despite declines in revenues and profit, and also
confirmed its full-year outlook. Group revenues amounted to just short of 107
million euros, compared to 117 million euros in the year-ago period. Adjusted
ebitda fell slightly from 11 to 10.8 million euros, whereas the operating
margin rose from 9.4 to 10.1 percent. Quarterly profit dropped 19 percent to

Automakers bank on cameras instead of mirrors
So far, cameras replace mirrors only in concept cars and small series. Thanks
to growing computing power and falling prices, however, they are becoming an
increasingly attractive option, seeing as they improve the driver's field of
vision and help reduce fuel consumption. Elmar Frickenstein, responsible for
electronics development at BMW, says it will take at least three to five years

Vaillant: heat from fuel cells
Heater manufacturer Vaillant plans to launch its fuel cell cogeneration unit
xcellPower in fall, Norbert Schiedeck, Managing Director of the Technology
Division announced at the company's annual press conference on May 2. Fuel
cells are a "highly attractive product" but currently only a niche technology
in the heating market, he explained, adding that fuel cells will have a hard
