BMW stärkt Drive Now mit IT-Unternehmen
BMW i Ventures investiert in den Software-Anbieter Ridecell, der eine
Mobilitätssoftware für die Flottenautomatisierung entwickelt hat. Diese
eröffnet BMW USA zufolge die Möglichkeit, neue Mobilitätsservices binnen
weniger Wochen anzubieten. Das IT-Unternehmen stellt künftig die Technologie
für das Drive-Now-Programm bereit, das es in den Vereinigten Staaten bislang
nur probeweise in San Francisco gab. Die Einführung in weiteren Städten ist

Toyota eröffnet drittes US-Forschungslabor
Toyota hat am 7. April angekündigt, im Juni sein drittes US-Forschungslabor in
Ann Arbor, Michigan, eröffnen zu wollen. Es soll sich der Erforschung von
künstlicher Intelligenz, Robotik und Materialwissenschaft widmen, um die
Entwicklung selbstfahrender Autos voranzutreiben. Der japanische Autohersteller
hat bereits ein Forschungslabor im Technologiezentrum Silicon Valley in Palo
Alto, wo er mit der Stanford University zusammenarbeitet. In einem weiteren
Labor in Cambridge, Massachusetts, kooperiert Toyota mit dem MIT. Das neue
Labor nahe der University of Michigan wird etwa 50 Mitarbeiter beschäftigen.

Freudenberg übernimmt Trelleborg-Anteile an Vibracoustic
Die Freudenberg-Gruppe hat mit ihrem schwedischen Joint-Venture-Partner
Trelleborg vereinbart, dessen 50-prozentige Beteiligung am
Gemeinschaftsunternehmen Vibracoustic zu erwerben. Der Kaufvertrag wird
gegenwärtig noch verhandelt. Zudem bedarf die Transaktion der Zustimmung der
zuständigen Behörden. Der geplante Börsengang von Vibracoustic ist damit

Marktführer Obi hält seine Vorjahreszahlen
Obi konnte seine Vorjahreszahlen 2015 annähernd halten, während die
Wettbewerber immer näher kommen. Das geht aus der aktuellen Dähne Statistik DIY
+ Garten 2016 hervor, dem Zahlen-Standardwerk der Baumarktbranche. Demnach hat
Obi seinen Gesamtumsatz bei 6,7 Milliarden Euro gehalten. Bauhaus verbesserte
sich um 5,5 Prozent auf nunmehr 6,12 Milliarden Euro, und Hornbach verzeichnete
ein Umsatzplus von 3,8 Prozent auf 4,05 Milliarden Euro. (diyonline.de - 08.

Bergbaumaschinen-Branche kämpft gegen die Flaute
Die zurückhaltende Nachfrage nach Rohstoffen macht den Herstellern von
Bergbaumaschinen noch immer zu schaffen. Dabei zeigt die Erfahrung laut "VDI
Nachrichten", dass viele Kunden ihre Kaufentscheidungen bis zur
Branchenleitmesse Bauma vom 11. bis 17. April aufschieben. Ein Aufschwung würde
der Branche helfen: Der weltweite Export von Bergbaumaschinen fiel im Jahr 2014
um 10,2 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr auf etwa 27,9 Milliarden Euro.

BMW strengthens Drive Now with IT company
BMW i Ventures has announced an investment in software provider Ridecell, which
has developed a mobility software for fleet automation. According to BMW USA,
the software allows to launch new mobility services in a few weeks. The IT
company is to provide the technology for the Drive-Now program in future that
has been launched only as a trial project in San Francisco in the U.S so far.
The program is set to be rolled out in other cities as well. (Automobilwoche

Toyota to open third U.S. research lab
Toyota Motor announced plans on April 7 to open its third U.S. research lab in
Ann Arbor, Michigan, in June for the study of artificial intelligence, robotics
and materials science to spur the development of self-driving cars. The
Japanese automaker already has a research lab in the Silicon Valley technology
hub of Palo Alto, where it works with Stanford University, and another in
Cambridge, Massachusetts, where it cooperates with MIT. Its new lab near the
University of Michigan will have a staff of about 50 employees. (Reuters -

Freudenberg buys Trelleborg stake in Vibracoustic
Freudenberg Group has agreed to buy the 50-percent stake of its Swedish
joint-venture partner Trelleborg in the Vibracoustic joint venture. The details
of the purchase, which is subject to regulatory approval, are currently being
negotiated. Vibracoustic's planned IPO has therefore been averted.

Market leader Obi with flat revenues
DIY chain Obi was able to keep its sales at the previous year's level in 2015,
but its competitors are closing in, according to the latest DIY and garden
report by publisher Dähne, the statistical standard reference of the
home-improvement industry. The report says that Obi kept its total revenues
stable at 6.7 billion euros. Revenues at rival Bauhaus rose 5.5 percent to 6.12
billion euros, while Hornbach booked revenues of 4.05 billion euros, up 3.8

Mining-machine industry struggles against downswing
The modest demand for commodities is still giving manufacturers of mining
machines a hard time. However, experience shows that many customers delay their
purchasing decisions until the industry's leading trade fair Bauma, which is to
take place from April 11 to 17 this year, according to "VDI Nachrichten". A
recovery would help the industry: Worldwide exports of mining machines fell by
10.2 percent year-on-year to about 27.9 billion euros in 2014.
