Howdy folks,

Since my computer crashed last night due to either a power supply or more
likely a mobo issue, I'm seriously considering a new computer. Anyone
know the best place to shop in Hagerstown for a new computer, Dell vs
HP....Intel vs AMD...and 32bit vs 64?

Also, does anyone know the best way to get Vista off the computer and XP
Pro on?

Additionally...I lose internet access from work at roughly 6pm tonight.
Won't be able to see any replies after that.

If anyone cares to troubleshoot....

Came home, obvious that the power had gone out. Computer would not turn
off. Previous power issues required swapping power plug between sockets
on surge protector until lights on keyboard glow briefly, at which point
power was back into the system. This was no longer working.

System disconnected from mice/keyboard/monitor. Removed lasted hardware
install (DVD-rom), and attempted to repower the system. No go. When
power would enter the system a green light on the mobo lights up with no
fluctuations. When computer turned on the fans would start spinning for
1-2 seconds and then the system would power off. In order to repower the
system, the plug must be disconnected from the wall socket, and replugged
back in. Removed power from both HD's. With my primary HD plugged in,
same symptoms existed. 2nd, smaller HD being the only HD plugged in the
system would boot, and beep codes were heard. Fans kept spinning until
system manually turned off. Re-plugging in the primary HD would return the
system to original symptoms.

If anyone can say if this is specifically a power supply issue, or a mobo
issue, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm not very good with
hardware/power issues.

On impulse this morning I retested with both HD's plugged in. The system
powered on, but would not turn off with the automatic 4 second disconnect.

Thank you,
Daniel Stephenson
