New Pages at Web English Teacher * Avoiding Plagiarism http://www.webenglishteacher.com/plagiarism.html Strategies for teaching students the skills they need to avoid plagiarism in the research process. * Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin http://www.webenglishteacher.com/cronin.html This delightful Caldecott winner has spawned a bunch of great Web sites. * Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey http://www.webenglishteacher.com/mccloskey.html Robert McCloskey passed away this summer. His legacy is a classic story of family and community. Here are excellent activities, from making puppets to reading arial maps of Boston. ------------------------------- 2. Sites to Check Out * Fling the Cow http://www.flingthecow.com/ While searching for sites to support Click, Clack, Moo, I came across Fling the Cow. Users catapult the cow into a target zone to acquire points. There's no redeeming educational value here, but be sure to check the farmer's comments in the Flash version, or the remarks that come up with the score in the Classic version. Good for a laugh! * Frankenstein http://www.gowcsd.com/master/ghs/english/propp/frnkqust/index.htm A Webquest approaching the novel from different perspectives. * The Logan Files: A Webquest on African American issues Linked to Mildred Taylor's Novels http://www.ori.net/stuart/logandefault.htm In this WebQuest, students travel into the past to eradicate social injustice. * The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail http://www.holtzbrinckpublishers.com/images/Books/TeachersGuides/ 0809012235TG.pdf This study guide requires Adobe Acrobat Reader for access. * Stapleless Book http://www.readwritethink.org/materials/stapleless/index.html At this interactive site, students follow the prompts to produce their own books. They can work with bulleted lists, headlines, and text; they can leave space to add pictures after printing. Everything prints out on one piece of paper. Follow the instructions to fold and cut. * Storytelling in America http://www.hudsonvalley.org/education/LessonPlans/Storytelling/ storytelling.html Designed for grades 3-8, this lesson asks students to compare and contrast different versions of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and to analyze the factual information presented in this fictional work. ------------------------------- 3.
