QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"Don't worry that children are never listening to you.
Worry that they are always watching you."

-  Robert Fulghum

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

1. ACTIVITY OF THE DAY

ITSY BITSY SPIDER SEQUENCING CARDS:
http://www.enchantedlearning.com/rhymes/seq/itsybitsy.shtml

If you are learning the Itsy Bitsy Spider nursery rhyme
this month, then try these story sequencing cards for
your students. They will need to cut out their cards
and place them in the correct order, according to the
song. Students can glue the cards on to construction
paper to make them more durable.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

2. THEMATIC UNITS

PRESCHOOL ACTIVITIES FOR A MULTICULTURAL THEME:
http://www.preschoolrainbow.org/multicultural.htm

Start with a passport, complete with your students' pho-
tos, for exploring a multicultural theme in your preschool
classroom. Students can dress up according to the countries
you study, or the country their ancestors are from. Then
create a Native American Symbols bulletin board, follow-
ing the instructions given here, learn about the Talking
Stone, and pursue several other cultural learning inves-
tigations here.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

3. TECHNOLOGY AND TOTS

ONLINE CONNECT THE DOTS:
http://www.EnchantedLearning.com/cgi-bin/Dots.cgi/bat

Do your students know their alphabet? If so, they can
click on the letters in order here to produce a picture
of a bat, perfect for Halloween learning and fun. If they
are not yet familiar enough with the alphabet sequence,
then give them an alphabet strip by their computer moni-
tor in order to help them out.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

4. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR

DEVELOPING MATH IN THE PRESCHOOL CLASSROOM:
http://www.coreknowledge.org/CKproto2/resrcs/lessons/02_PreK_Number.pd
f

Extensive activities use manipulatives and hands-on exer-
cises to explore the world of mathematics. Preschoolers will
learn to compare, measure, take away, sort, and classify.
Six lesson plans are included, along with student work-
sheets.

HALLOWEEN CATS CLIPART:
http://www.bry-backmanor.org/holidayfun/weencats.html

This clipart collection offers several versions of both
cats and pumpkins, all of the friendly variety.

5. NUMBERS AND LETTERS

ACORNS FOR THE SQUIRRELS:
http://www.bry-backmanor.org/actpag11.html

Preschool students can practice scissor skills by cutting
out these acorns, and then match and paste the correct a-
mount of nuts to the corresponding numeral and squirrel.
Extra acorns can be colored and pasted on the oak tree.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

6. LESSONS AND SKILLS

NATIVE AMERICAN STORYTELLING BLANKET:
http://www.kinderart.com/littles/blanket.shtml

Use brown butcher paper or a large roll of brown wrap-
ping paper to construct a whole class "blanket". You
can either draw and color on the symbols, or look in
magazines to cut and paste them onto your blanket. Then
have your preschool students create their own story to
accompany their art project--let them act it out along
with music for an extension of this exercise.

NATIVE AMERICAN FRIENDS:
http://www.makingfriends.com/friends/f+native_american.htm

Download color or outline Native American paper dolls--
along with hair variations and clothing--on cardstock.
You can also trace them onto foam for more durable dolls.
You can create a friendship chain on your bulletin board,
create a skit or play for Thanksgiving, or thread a rib-
bon through a paper punch hole to make necklaces with
your Native American friendship dolls.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Riverdeep's instructional content and tools to achieve
MEASURABLE results!

7. EXPLORATIONS AND EXPEDITIONS

DOWN ON THE FARM:
http://www.preschoolexpress.com/teacher_station/sept01_farm.shtml

All aboard the farm tour express line, for an exploration
of farm life and animals with your preschool students. They
will make color games and vegetable prints, and try some
wonderful but simple preschool animal art.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

8. PRINTABLES

PRINTABLE LEAVES:
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/6459/septbonus.html

Create a fall cascade of color in your room, by printing
out these maple and oak leaves. Let your students color
them in autumn shades, then create a border around your
bulletin board or a wonderful display in your classroom
windows.
