      Seychelles Through Time
Read about how the granitic Seychelles islands used to lie at
the heart of the supercontinent Gondwanaland 2 million years ago
but now sit all alone 1,000 miles out in the Indian Ocean.
Includes an animation depicting the breakup of Gondwanaland.
      (QuickTime plug-in required.) (Grades 6-8, 9-12)

      Saving the Seychelles Magpie Robin
Learn the story behind the ongoing rescue of the Seychelles
magpie robin, a black bird that dwindled to fewer than 20
individuals on a single island in the Seychelles but now numbers
90 individuals on three islands. (Grades 6-8, 9-12)

Why Do Islands Breed Giants (And Sometimes Dwarfs)?
Find out what island biogeographers are beginning to learn about
dwarfism and gigantism among certain species -- such as a frog
the size of an ant and a nut that can weigh more than 40
pounds -- that have arrived on oceanic islands such as the
      Seychelles. (Grades 6-8, 9-12)

      Build an Island (Hot Science)
Step through a demonstration of how an atoll, a low-lying coral

NOVA News Minute: Garden of Eden -- Animal Census
      (Running time -- 1 minute 39 seconds)
Remote islands like the Seychelles and Madagascar are home to an
astonishing number of diverse creatures. One scientist argues
that we should be doing a better job of creating an inventory of
the life-forms found on those islands and elsewhere around the
world. Transcript included. (QuickTime or RealVideo plug-in
      required.)

      Teacher's Guide
In this classroom activity, students collect and analyze
information in order to invent an organism with adaptations to
fit a particular niche, and predict its impact on other
      populations. (Grades 6-8)

      Program Transcript
The site includes a complete narration for this program.
