[jhb] Glider Question

Today I saw 3 gliders spiralling in a thermal over Newbury. I can recall a tv
programme years ago, about some chaps doing long distance gliding. As I recall
they started in York, got as far south as Didcot, and then climbed on the hot
air from the power station, and glided back to York.
The question is, are they still allowed to get that near to power stations?
