One of my worst experiences is still clear in my memory. I'd had my appendix out, in 1957, and had a post op infection, so wasn't feeling perky. No visitors one evening, so I was listening to the Goon Show, on earphones. It was the one where they were in a naval battle, on the Serpentine, with Milligan calling out to "stand by to pick up survivors". I don't recommend laughing under those circumstances.
Not a problem for you; there's nothing that funny to bring on painful laughter.

True but sitting up in bed isn't that comfortable right now and any change of posture is still a fraught experience. The worst moment so far was when I sneezed - it felt like someone had fired a few rounds from a nail gun into my gut. I dread to think what it must be like without the painkillers I've been given.. I can see why this op used to require months of convalescence prior to keyhole surgery. Must go - SWMBO is ordering me back to the dungeon. bones bones@xxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gerry Winskill Sent: 19 January 2011 20:28 To: jhb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb] Re: Back again but not operational as yet. Just a short note to say that I am back home again but I won ’ t be online for a short while. Apparently I reacted to the anaesthetic and instead of coming round a couple of hours later I didn ’ t surface until I had been wheeled to A&E. I was kept under observation for a further 24 hours before being released. Back home again now but under quite a bit of discomfort so it will be a few days before I can get out of bed . If keyhole surgery is supposed to make the operation less painful and give shorter recovery times I feel sorry for an yone who had the full slash and cut treatment in the past. I ’ m having to type this standing up because it ’ s darned painful trying to sit down! I ’ ll try to get back asap but don ’ t expect any activity before the weekend – appropriate as that is also a side effect of the op.. bones bones@xxxxxxx<mailto:bones@xxxxxxx>
