Does jaws shutup in other applications? You may try resetting your reset
frequency in the problem application's jaws configuration file. It sounds like
jaws is getting the command just doesn't get it fast enough. I have seen this
problem with IE or with long sentences. Like the synth is a mouth that fills up
with words it has to spew before it can shutup. In the ap's .jcf file
(insert+f2 while in the application and choose configuration manager) look for
synthesiser options and type in a lower value for reset frequency. Insert+f1
help is available for all options in the configuration manager. If you don't
know what an option does, use that and don't forget to press escape when done
viewing the context sensative help.

Subject: Re: two problems I am having with my xp machine and JAWS

Hello listers:

I hope that you can help me with two problems I am having with my new
computer which has a mother board with an on-board ATI video chip. I
am using JFW 510 and the Eloquence software voice synthesizer.

The first problem is that I am not able to get JFW and Eloquence to
shut up immediately when I press the <CTRL> key. This problem occurs
when I am in the message window and I press the keys to speak
previous, next or new messages.

Jaws starts speaking the "to", "from", "subject" line etc., but if I
do not want to hear any more of the message, and I press <CTRL> to
stop speech, JFW keeps rattling away as if I had not done anything.=20

My only solution so far, is to keep tapping the <LEFT> and <RIGHT>
control keys, as in left, right, left, right, etc., until JFW and
eloquence decide to be quiet.

I opened the MsConfig file and unchecked all of the references to the
ATI video adapter (as suggested by FS technical support) team, but to
no avail.

The second problem is when I select text. Let's say that I have
highlighted a block of text which I either want to copy or cut to the
clipboard, I then press <CTRL+X> or <CTRL+C> to perform the cut or
copy commands, JFW says, "no text selected".

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber
