Judith,
You know, it isn't conventional to close spell check each time you correct a
word. This doesn't mean end the operation on that one word. it means close
the program. Quit the spell check. Perhaps you weren't aware of that. The
normal way to proceed through a spell check series of corrections is to
respond to them one at a time by either retyping them as I described, or
arrowing through the suggested corrections and pressing Enter on Correct, or
pressing the Ignore control (either tab once or twice (try it, you'll see
what those two presses do)and then the spell checker automatically shows the
next error and offers the same range of options for you.

when the program finds no more things to suggest corrections for, it says
it's finished, and asks you to press Enter on OK. Or, if you've been spell
checking just a portion of a document or email that you've selected, it will
say it's done with the portion of the document or email that you wanted to
spell check, and asks if you wish to continue spell checking the rest of
the document or email. If you're really done, of course, you click no. And
spell check turns itself off. To press Close is just for when you want to
stop the process before it runs it course, generally. It isn't a bad thing
to do, but it isn't the normal way to let spell check do its job.

Hope this helps

This is how the spell check works, not by exiting it every time you correct
one word in the document or email.

Control tab to close button for the spell check, edit your work and hit
spell check to continue. Judith
