I would check to see how many programs are running in the background.  See, 
software speech is just that, software, so that's something that has to be 
run, and the more programs you have running or the more processor intensive 
it is, the slower it'll run if a lot of stuff is running. It could also 
have a lot to do with memory caching and other factors.  So if your 
software speech stutters, you should try and close down as many running 
programs as you can and keep it to a minimum. Either that, or if you ever 
get the chance, buy yourself a hardware synth. I never ever have any of the 
problems with stuttering speech everyone else seems to have, and I love it.
I'm glad JAWS still supports the dectalk express. I know someday that's not 
gonna be the case though so I'm seriously thinking about shelling out the 
cash and buying a copy of dectalk access 32 just in case. Sure it's 
software speech but it's better than nothing.
