skipe help! this is urgent!

Hi, I am trying to help a friend, who is new to skipe. We'd made a test call,
but at the other end, the person told us, he could hear my friend, but very
soft.
Somebody had told us to go in to the volume control's property and check
something call recorder sound... Something like that? But we were not able to
do that. We had try the left mouse button to uncheck it, but it still remain
the same. Can someone please help?
