I laugh because this is a common mistake. Faxes only work through the
phoneline. If you have no modem(phone modem used for standard dialup) you have
no faxing ability. You can connect your cable modem and your fax modem at the
same time. This also works with a dsl modem if you plug in your phone line for
the modem into the extra phone port which should be filtered. Well, mines is.
