response very slow

Did you say you had Norton anti-virus running? There is a background process
that Norton installs which is a real resource hog and is virtually useless. In
MSCONFIG/StartUp Page check for a program called CFGWIZ. Uncheck it-I did on
my machine and it made a difference. Here's a webpage with info on startup
