No , the sender's address does not have to be in your address book to reply directly to him or her off-list. Just open the message to which you want to reply, and press Insert-Shift-R. This will send the message privately to the sender and not to the entire list.

Hi All,

I just tried to reply off list to someone on another list using the latest
Jaws 9 and when I tried to send the message it said the address wasn't in my
address book.  Does the address I'm replying to have to be in my address
book for that to work or is that a bug, and if it's a bug is there a
work-around?
