When arrowing down through the contacts I am not getting Jaws to read the
telephone number is there some way to get that without opening the contact?

Use Control 3 and that will put you in contacts. Control 1 for inbox and
Control 2 for calendar.

try this.
While in your inbox press f6. It should say
'mail.' Arrow down a few times and you should arrive at contacts.
