msn messenger problem

ok this aplies to both msn messenger and windows messenger when i asign the 
conversations to their channels i  
1. do not get the wave sound telling me that i am switched to that conversation 
nor will the scripts do anything at all 
this happens in both msn messenger and windows messenger .
msn messenger version 6.2 and windows messenger 5.0
i am running windows xp home and jaws 5.0/5.10 
please help tell me what to do
