When I ran into the need to plug this very display into a usb port where there was no serial port, I researched this online, and found that some converters worked, and some did not, for whatever reason. Therefore, I called Humanware and got the converter from them, since I also have a Braille Note which can only be used as a braille display through its serial port. They of course didn't have a model number, so I couldn't find it elsewhere for possibly less, and they also didn't ship free matter, so if this can't be worked out on your end with possible drivers, then the Humanware converter will work. Along with the cable, you'll get a driver disc, and you will need to install those drivers before the converter will work, and you'll also need your serial cable that came with the Alva, since the converter has a usb plug on one side, and the row of pins bit on the other. I hope this helps, and sorry that it may come out of your pocket like it did mine, but it will work. It'll be about $30 with shipping. Matthew
