i have seen the program on casper xp page. i maybe wrong but the way i see
it that volume resizing could pose quite a problem later as it doesn't
display the exact capacity of the hard drive.
correct me if i'm wrong.

If I understand your requirements, you want to use an external USB drive to backup your data and restore from that drive if your HD crashes. that is exactly what Casper XP does. You can restore your data by either: 1. Directly from the USB drive, if your laptop supports booting from a USB drive; 2. Using the Casper XP boot CD; 3. Or plan ahead and purchase an external HD that you can install into your laptop. In that case, you would remove the failed HD from your laptop, remove the backup HD from its external case and install it into your laptop. Fire up your laptop and you are back in business.
All of these options are pretty straight forward and make recovery a 15 minute process. That's exactly why I use it for my data backup.

Back to my original question.
I want to make a bootable CD or DVD, preferably with speech, but will settle
for an auto restore program. I would like to be able to access USB drives
when I boot from this CD or DVD. I would like to have my USB drive as a
restore repository rather than a series of CDs or DVDs.
Is there a jaws friendly program that will allow me to do this?
Or, can I create a boot CD /DVD with speech and a restore program on it in
the case that my hard drive crashes?.
