Jill, I can think of two options you have here. The first is that many laptops have an additional key marked Fn to the left of the Windows key on the left of the SpaceBar, which can be used with another key to mimic the number pad. I have a Dell Latitude D420, and on this laptop pressing Fn + SemiColon is the same as NumPad minus, and Fn + slash equates to NumPad plus. Remember you can use Insert + 1 to go into Keyboard help mode, and then explore the keyboard to find out which keystrokes do what you need. A second possibility is to use either the laptop or the classic keyboard laptop keyboard layouts. You can get to these through the JAWS Options menu, Basics dialogue. The idea of these layouts is they give additional keystrokes for things that usually require the number pad. For instance, with JAWS 6 and the laptop layout, CapsLock + P switches to the JAWS cursor, and CapsLock + SemiColon gives the PC cursor. With JAWS 6 and the classic layout it is Alt + P for JAWS cursor and Alt + SemiColon for the PC cursor. You may want to play around with these options to find which one suits you best. --- Steve Griffiths, IT Trainer, Access Technology Support Unit Royal National Institute of the Blind 105 Judd Street London WC1H 9NE Tel: 020 7391 2232 Email: steve.griffiths@xxxxxxxxxxx Fax: 020 7383 2034 Web: http://www.rnib.org.uk/ -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jill Kline Sent: 28 February 2007 12:00 To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: jaws cursor on laptop Does anyone know how you use the jaws cursor on a laptop keyboard? Typically it's numpad plus and minus on a desktop keyboard, but what do you do if you are using a laptop keyboard? Thanks!
