Nicol, Did you ever get a response to these questions from any of the lists to which you sent them? If so, I'd love to know about any informative and helpful replies you'd be willing to share, so as to learn something helpful about this sort of Jaws issue. If you have received anything helpful and don't want to post it to this list at large, feel free to write me directly, off list, at yardbird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nicol Oosthuizen" <NOosthuizen@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <help_needed_list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <blcompusers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <blindtech@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <jawsscripts@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, June 19, 2006 4:56 AM Subject: is there a way to determine the default button in some non-standard dialogues and on a web form? NB: This email and its contents are subject to our email legal notice which can be viewed at http://www.sars.gov.za/Email_Disclaimer.pdf ---- AS you are aware you can press insert+e in most dialogues to get the name of the default button, that is the button which will be activated if you press enter. first of all, can anyone tell me: why does jaws not recognize the default button in some dialogues. sometimes it will say: cannot determine the default button in this dialogue. And sometimes it will say: not in a dialogue box. While my cursor is definitely in a dialogue box because if I press tab and shift+tab I can hear that my cursor move around between actual dialogue controls. A good example is the find dialogue in word. Well, actually it's obvious: if I press enter the find button will be activated, but I have come across other dialogues where jaws also can't provide the default button where I need to know the default button. Another example where I do have a problem is the open dialogue in word. The problem lies if I use an edit control to find files. IN the dialogue there is the edit field to type in the file name; then you tab twice and you will get another edit field: text or property where you can search for files within the open dialogue. I want to make sure which is my default button if I press enter. sometimes I'm intending to type in the file name whereas I per accident typed text into text and property instead. The open dialogue contains both the open button and a find button. And when my cursor is inside an edit field on a web form, is there a way to determine with jaws what the default button is? as some forms have more than one button. something else which is also strange to me when I type in my user name and password on a form such as the health service at my work: when I typed in my user name and password and I press enter I hear a ping sound although the submit button on the form is activated. Why does windows play this sound. This sound normally indicates there is an error of some kind for instance I hear the ping sound if I press left arrow and my cursor is at the left most side of an edit box inside a dialogue box.. thanks -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message.
