Control A highlights the entire document.  If you want to highlight from a 
certain point until the end of document control shift End key in the six pack.  
Going a step further, if you want to extract a block of selected text from your 
document Control X.  If you want to copy all the text, without extracting,

  depends if you want to highlight by line, shift down arrow. if you want to go 
by word  control shift left or right arrow by character shift left or right 
arrow reasons i give the right and left is this if you want to highlight 
backward or need too, left arrow will do that right goes forward. hth
