Re: disable rich text editing in MS Word 2003

I'm not entirely sure what they mean here. With Word 2003, and earlier versions, you can save a file as text by changing the file type in the Save As dialog. In Word xp and 2003, what you want is called Plain Text. or you can go into the save tab of the options dialog, off the tools menu, and change the default save format, and one of the choices is plain text.
