Hi, thought I'd share a tip which may be useful in this case. Using the power options in windows make sure that your physical power button is set to shutdown when pressed. Then if your screen reader etc stops working press it and windows should shut down. If not, keep pressing enter and this will hopefully get windows to accept any force shut down messages. It doesn't always work as sometimes the message which may or may not come up might be on cancel by default, but it's worth a try just to reduce the times you have to turn the PC off immediately. Fortunately Windows 7 seems to be able to recover from forced shut downs much better than XP.

Subject: corrupted version of WindowsRe: message about a JAVA update

I too had to reinstall Windows on a new drive because my former edition of
XP got corrupted, due to pressing and holding the power button on the
computer when my screenreader and braille display froze. When I (via a
sighted techie) installed a new version of XP on a new drive sent by my
brother, all my old files and programs were on the old drive (which had the
former version of XP) but not the new one; a clean version of Windows
installed with the programs transferred from the old drive, but none of the
old documents, emails, web browser favorites, Winamp bookmarks, etc. The
techie transferred all the files and programs from the old drive to his
external thumb drive, then from the thumb drive to this new drive, but not
all of them got onto the new drive. Tonight he hopes to reconnect this old
drive so I can find those old files and migrate them to the new drive.
Programs can't install from an old drive to a new; they have to be
reinstalled or redownloaded from scratch.
Why would pressing the power when my screenreader freezes, and nothing else
I try works, corrupt Windows so it can't reboot anymore?

Hello Cy and Friends,
Before I reinstalled Windows due to a corrupted version of XP, and
completely started over with a completely clean System's Drive, I had this
terrible problem all the time, even a couple times a day, it was so
terribly annoying.

I must assume then, it is because some "Cookie" was deleted when the new
install occurred.

I bet you are receiving this message because of some "Cookie" that got
onto your system.

If you can find the "Cookie" that brings this message into your system,
and delete it, I am sure your problem will go away!

With Best Regards,
