Chris,
I took a break from the registration process at the point where I was
supposed to accept the user agreements. The reason I didn't proceed right
then was because I was a little burned out from wrestling with the audio
verification stuff, and I didn't understand why the first thing on the page
was a link for returning to some home page. They don't immediately say what
you are supposed to do on each page (for instance, an error in filling out
something shows up right at that point in the form, but there's no title
like Error, Try Again at the top of the page, so a screen reader person has
to hunt for the problem, if there is indeed a problemwatchful and , and I
can't always infer what's the next thing to do.

So I cycled around to Outlook express and looked at my email for a few
minutes. Now, I came back, input my email address in an edit box beneath
where the page displayed my email address (I have no idea what that was
about), and clicked the I agree button.

But what happened? Did I get a page saying Congratulations and welcome, and
here's how to use this service? No. What I found myself on was the very
"set up your credentials" page where I'd started, as if the whole
transaction had been cancelled and now I had to begin all over again. But
without their having the grace to actually tell me so. I searched up and
down the page to see if it said something like "timed out, dummy. Start
over." But there was no message of any kind, just the original invitation
to enter an email address, a password, a secret question and answer, and
then the verification graphic again.

What's up with this? I'm not moving off that page now. If I'm just
supposed to click (return to page x" or something, please tell me.
Otherwise it looks as if the thing timed out while I was supposed to have
been reading the agreements online or printing them and reading them, and
that doesn't sound likely. Why wouldn't it wait a while on that page?

Dan, what you need to do is to go into your insert plus f11 system
tray icon dialogue, and look for an icon that says, windows
messenger not signed in.
If you don't see the icon, then the program is closed so you'll need
to go to your start menu, programs, and keep pressing w til you hear
windows messenger and then press enter on that.

However, if you find the icon in your system tray,
press enter and a context menu will come up. press enter on the open option.

Next, go to your file menu and press enter on the option that says,
sign in as... and you'll then get a dialogue asking you for your .net
messenger passport address, if you have one. Simply type in the
e-mail address and password associated with your passport and you can
then sign in. If you don't have a passport account, you can press
shift plus tab in that dialogue a couple times and you'll find a link
that sas, get a .net passport. press enter on that, and you can then
sign up for one. you will have to eventually get to the word
verification, but with luck you can get past that and you can then
verify your e-mail address. you'll receive an e-mail that says that
you need to click on a link that verifys your address. so when you
sign in, you'll need to pick a screen name for yourself, possibly
yardbird? You can pretty much choose anything you like, so go ahead
and do that. you should then be all signed in, and if you know
someone else who uses msn/windows messenger, you can start adding
people to your contact list and when they see you've requested to
add them, they'll add you back. You can then start a chat with tem by
pressing enter on their screen name in the list of contacts. Hope
this is helpful.
