you see no evidence of conflicts between your sound cards?
i had no luck of creating a dual sound card system as my on-board sound
card
conflicts with the other one. perhaps you are not using on-board sound
card
to encounter such a nasty problem like mine.

Thanks very much for the link - yes this is exactly the page i wanted and
for the record this does work as i am running a realtek internal
soundcard
and an external u s b soundblaster with jaws coming through the
soundblaster.
