When Jaws speaks only the first line of an email message

This just occurred to me, belatedly. Now and then, listers have posted
about not being able to get Jaws to speak all of an email message in Outlook
Express. Now this may seem obvious to a lot of people where, but it may be
useful to some. And that's to say that in Outlook Express, even when you
have gotten it all set up optimally for using blind (such as turning off the
preview function), it still has one quirk of which some may be unaware.

That is, that when you click a message open in your Inbox, it at first opens
in a reduced-size window. A sighted user might find this adequate and read
the message this way, scrolling down with the mouse control, and
appreciating still being able to see most of the surrounding Outlook or
Outlook Express Inbox features around the message area.

However, if a blind user opens a message while using Jaws, and doesn't do
anything else. Jaws will begin speaking, but will quit after one line, or
at least that's my experience with OE, XP Home with SP2, and Jaws 6.

There's nothing complicated to do, and no arcane setting or adjustment to
make in any menus or anything like that. Just remember to maximize the
message window immediately upon opening the message, using the Windows
keyboard command alt-spacebar-x. Now just read the message manually, using
ordinary keyboard commands such as control home to make sure you're at the
top of the message, then do a Jaws Say All (insert numpad 8) or read line by
line with your arrow keys, if you wish. In any case, maximize the window,
whatever else you do.

Hope this helps someone,
Daniel
