What causes Jaws to speak more than one program on the desktop

Good Morning! I am using Jaws 4.5 on a laptop with windows 98. Today I
noticed that when the machine boots up jaws announces every icon on the
desktop. Also, when I do insert+f6 to minimize and then hit a letter such
as "M" to get to my documents, jaws announces more than one icon beginning
with M. Any help would be appreciated. John Fioravanti, Jr.
