                Hi
Kathy asked a question here earlier about wether or not to just wait til
March to install 6.0.
Let me clear a couple of things up.

The quella version of JAWS 6.0 will expire in March, so if you're using
that, you should receive your CD, or what FS calls a SMA shipment, in
January or possibly as late as February.
So if you're using that, or even if you're using the ILM build and you're
using a dongle, you won't have to reinstall, reconfigure anything. All
you'll need to do, as the text on the website says, is simply insert your
authorization cd and then you'll authorize and be transfered over to the
new internet based authorization system.
The same holds true if you're using a dongle. You have a choice of using a
dongle or not using one because the ILM build has automatic dongle support.
When the program starts it automatically checks for a dongle. If a dongle
is present, then it'll start JAWS automatically. If not, you'll be prompted
to insert your authorization cd. So it really isn't all that complicated,
even though it might seem like it. I do wish FS would make their
terminology a bit easier for the new user to understand. A lot of new, or
inexperienced computer users don't want to have to understand a lot of
complex terms to get things going. So that's why they came up with this
authoorization cd idea which I think is a good one. Just for everyone's
reference, I'm going to paste the entire text of the JAWS 6.0 main page. It
has a Q and A about everything everyone's asked today. So please, read it
carefully. In this case, skimming is probably not a good idea because you
might miss an important point. here it is, read below.

JAWS for Windows 6.0 English Version Release

The 10 year anniversary edition of JAWS for Windows 6.0 English Release is
now available. This latest version is loaded with innovations and features
never
before seen in screen readers which will continue to give users of JAWS the
most powerful and innovative tools for work, education, or home use. Please
read the details below regarding the downloads available for all SMA
customers and the schedule of shipments.

This release is an SMA (Software Maintenance Agreement) upgrade and there
are links below to all of the serial numbers pre authorized and scheduled
to receive
this version as part of the SMA shipment. If you have not purchased this
upgrade yet and would like more information and details on cost and
availability,
please contact Freedom Scientific Sales or your local authorized dealer.

How do I know if I can download it now?

You can check the complete list of serial numbers to see if yours is
included. If your number is not included and you feel we have omitted it in
error,
please contact Freedom Scientific Sales. If your number is included, you
can download and begin to use JAWS 6.0 today!

If I am entitled to receive this release, will it be shipped to me
automatically even if I choose to download it now?

Yes, this new release is now going to production and all the SMA shippments
will be prepared and begin to ship by the middle of January. You should receive
this shipment no later than the end of February.

Will I be using my old 3.5 inch authorization disk with the new release?

If you have not received the new Internet Based Authorization (ILM) yet,
you will be able to download and use the Quella Version now. This version
expires
on March 15, 2005. Your SMA shipments will contain the new ILM
authorization and your ILM Program CD which will install right over this
Quella version.

If you have already received the ILM version as part of your new product or
upgrade purchase since September 2004 you may already have your new
Authorization
CD. In this case, you can download the ILM version of JAWS 6.0 now. You
will also be getting the Program CD shipped to you with the normal SMA
shipments
beginning in January.

Will all the JAWS SMA shipments contain the new ILM authorization?

Single User License (English Release) SMA shipments will be getting the new
Internet based Authorization with their shipments.

Multi User License (English Release) SMA shipments will still be getting
the Quella version authorization and will be given an opportunity to transition
to the new scheme as soon as they are ready. Multi user customers will
receive further details in the SMA package and should contact the Freedom
Scientific
Multi User Sales team with any questions.

If I just purchased JAWS recently, am I entitled to get JAWS 6.0 for free?

If your new product purchase occurred since September, 2004 and you
received JAWS 5.10 with a serial number higher than 400,000 or a Quella
version with
a serial number higher than 92,200 then you are pre authorized for a JAWS
6.0 upgrade free of charge. You can download the appropriate version and begin
to use JAWS 6.0 now.

If I'm currently using a dongle for my JAWS authorization, can I begin
using 6.0 now?

You can start using JAWS 6.0 provided your dongle is properly locked to
allow this version. If you feel your license is authorized for 6.0 or
later, you
should download the new ILM version now which is designed to first look for
a dongle when it is launched. When your SMA shipment arrives, you will then
be ready to follow the simple procedure to update your authorization with
ILM and you can stop using your dongle at that time.

If I currently only have Quella authorization, and I download the ILM
version of JAWS 6.0, will it work?

No. The Internet based authorization does not recognize your Quella
authorization key. Likewise, the Quella version cannot recognize the ILM
license. However,
the new ILM version of JAWS can recognize a dongle and use it for
authorization.

What if I'm in a country where only Dongles are used? Should I still
download and use the ILM?

No, we have provided a
Dongle Only version on the Downloads pages
for your use. You should use this version with your dongle.

Will there be new Training Materials with JAWS 6.0?

When you get your SMA shipments in January or February, the all new DAISY
formatted Basic Training material along with the recorded What's New and some
other files showing off the new features will all be included. These DAISY
files are installed directly from the Program CD of JAWS now if you choose and
the FS Reader Demo installed with JAWS 6.0 will read them all. FSReader is
a new program from Freedom Scientific that you can use to listen to and read
DAISY books. FSReader Demo is included with JAWS and can read only DAISY
books created by Freedom Scientific. For information on purchasing the full
version
of FSReader, contact Freedom Scientific Sales.

To download DAISY training materials on some of the new features in JAWS
6.0, go to the
Freedom Scientific Training page
and choose the DAISY Books link.

Can I read the Freedom Scientific training material with other DAISY readers?

While FSReader Demo is included with JAWS 6.0 to allow you to read and
listen to books created by Freedom Scientific, you can use any DAISY reader
software
of your choice instead. Freedom Scientific DAISY books can be used with any
DAISY reading software.

Will this version of JAWS for Windows work with MAGic 9.0?

We have tested JAWS and MAGic together extensively. If you want to use JAWS
6.0 with MAGic, we recommend that you update to
MAGic version 9.2.

Will I need to install any custom hot fixes from Microsoft to use JAWS with
Microsoft Office?

No, it is not necessary. However, you should always download and install
official updates from Microsoft when they become publicly available.
