Hi John,

Did you reboot after making all those adjustments? Sometimes that's the necessary last step. For what it's worth, I use XP and don't have this problem, but I think you indicated you didn't either until you went on a network. If those other suggestions don't work after rebooting, it suggests something in the network is causing the problem, no?

I tried the installation repair with no luck. Also tried Allan's suggestion
of making sure that the Hide Inactive Icons check box in the Taskbar
properties is unchecked. Also turned off the LAN icon, as recommended by
Rick. None of these had any effect.
