Hi, Ed. What you need to do is find something unique to the spelling error screen, then put this into the JAWS dictionary, so that when this string is encountered, the JAWS dictionary will see it. In the dictionary there is a place to make JAWS make a sound when it encounters this string.

In the grand scheme of things, this is a low priority; however, I've looked without success for a way to change what happens when Word encounters a spelling error on the fly. At present, JAWS says "spelling error." I would prefer that the word with the spelling error be indicated with a user-defined sound, much in the way forms mode on/off indications work.I don't think this is possible.
