Reading PDF

Hello.
I am studying for my WebMaster Certification and I have PDF study guides. I
have downloaded the Adobe Reader 6.0 from the great website, JFWlite. Yet,
when I pull the file up I hear nothing. Could it be the security settings?
JAWS appears to have no scripts for this version. Thank you for any input.
