ed, There are some things to check for. What is running in the system tray and do you need everything that is running. What runs at start up and od you need everything that does. What services are active in services under administrative tools and do you need all of them? Adjustments can be made in system under controll pannel on the advanced page under performance settings, in the advanced tab, there are settings you can tweak. One of them is the file paging size. This is recommended to be 2 to three times the amount of ram that you actually have so three gig of ram should work for you in both of these fields for lower and upper limit. There are other settings you can tweek, but before going to this length, make sure that in services as mentioned above that indexing is turned off and any other services you don't need are turned off. and also make sure you have reduced as much as possible what is running at start up and what is loaded in the system tray. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Edward Marquette" <emarquette@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2004 10:53 PM Subject: Out of Memory I think this may be JAWS related, but I am not sure. With a fairly long (about 40 pages) document loaded, MS Word, usually when reading word-by-word (though not limited to that situation), announces that it has insufficient memory and that the action being undertaken cannot be undone if I choose to proceed. I hit "Y" and continue. Granted, the document is complex with automatic numbering, styles, automatic cross-references, and the like, but I have one GB of RAM, and I should think that would definitely be sufficient. This happens both on my 1 GB laptop running Windows XP Professional and my 1 GB desktop machine running Windows 2000. My secretary does not have the same problem. She has less memory, but no JAWS. All other applications are shut down when this happens. I am running JAWS 4.51, with the patch. Any ideas? Do I really need more memory?
