The so-called French paradox is a well-known problem that Microsoft has been aware of for quite some time. For some reason that no one can explain, the spell checker in the XP version of Outlook Express is defaulted to French only. Fortunately, you can fix this problem by downloading the free Spell Checker for OE which replaces the French Dictionary with an English one.
