I can't imagine what is going on. I have had Norton 2005 since last November and I never had this trouble. I think you have to get a sighted person to look at the computer when it starts

Unfortunately these instructions don't work for me. It is the same thing a
freeze on Norton when I start my computer. Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you use Norton? Well usually ndetect causes an illegal operation, not
a
page fault. But I would still try this and see if this fixes the problem
because it has for many others with the ndetect problem.
if you are getting the illegal error message when you have run jaws first
checked, this probably has to with NDetect. NDetect is the scheduled task
that establishes the connection to live updates so that it can
continuously
monitor for live updates. The problem is caused from the fact that the
Norton Live Updates feature that checks automatically for live updates and
jaws are trying to start up at the same time. You can either disable
automatic live updates and do it yourself manually, or you can try
the following which has worked for many.

First using msconfig delete or uncheck the scheduling agent. the program
name
is mstask.exe.

then press the windows logo key followed by r and in the run dialog paste
the following line.

c:\windows\start menu\programs\startup

After the folder is located press alt+f then w for new. then press s until
You hear short cut then press enter.

at the command line prompt paste in the following line:

c:\windows\system\mstask.exe Tab to ok and press enter.

Tab to Finishh and press enter. Then the Norton program will start
substantially after jaws and the problem should go away.

I would like to have my Jaws start automatically but Norton interferes with
it. I ;am running Jaws 7 and Norton 2005 Anti virus with windows XP. I I
remember there was a fix for this but I never kept the information. If
anyone has the instructions, could you please send it to me? thanks!
