Latest Jaws and latest yahoo messenger problems

Hi, when I hold the alt key down with the number 1 its supposed to tell me
the last message as far as I understand.  When I do it, Jaws says "you must
be in the chat window to read last messages."  What, if anything can I do to
fix this?
