Jaws not speaking hwen I copy text to the clipboard

Hi. After selecting text jaws does not speak when I do a control c to copy
to the clipboard, but when I do a control v jaws then says pasted text from
clipboard. Using jaws 5.0 and windows xp home edition. Any ideas on why
this might be happening?
