Hi Hank, My guess is that you may have some programs running as Startup Items that don't need to be running all the time. Such programs use up resources, which tends to slow down JAWS. To check what is running, press the Windows Key for the Start Menu and press r for Run. Then, type msconfig and press Enter. Then, press Shift Tab and cursor right 5 times to the Startup Items Tab. Now, Tab once and you can cursor down the list to see what is checked; be sure to leave your anti virus program and your anti spyware program checked, but most other programs can be unchecked with the SpaceBar. After making some changes, press Enter and you will be prompted to reboot your computer. The only other thing to try is to pull down the Tools Menu & press o for Options. Then, uncheck several things in the various Tabs, including everything related to spellchecking, grammar, animation & pictures. Hope this helps, Don ----- Original Message ----- From: Hank & Patty To: Jaws mailing list Sent: Thursday, March 19, 2009 10:06 PM Subject: Jaws is quite sluggish when typing farily fast in Ms-word Hello, I have Jaws 7.1 and Ms-word 2003. I have noticed for quite some time that Jaws is quite sluggish when I am typing fairly fast in Ms-word. Is there anyway I can speed up the response of Jaws to respond quicker to tell me the current words as I am typing them fairly fast? Any help with this would be so very much appreciative as I am a medical transcriptionist. Much thanks in advance for any help. All the best, Hank Merchant Jr.
