Ralph, I just got an email from Moti and he said that reading Hebrew on Jaws
is not like reading English. Even if it was you wouldn't get instant
treanslations from the Hebrew into English. For example:
the first word in the Chumash or Bible is, "Bereshis". The translation is
"In the beginning". You wouldn't get this on a jaws program.
I just heard from people today that there are audio tapes that give word for
word translations. Try googling up the topic and see what you come up with.
Now I have a request to make of you. Please don't take our Bible, translate
it and use it to prosletize among our people. We live in the first
democracy in the world that allows Jews to be Jews and we shouldn't feel
that everyone is out to convert us. From the time I was in college I
learned that many Pastors want to use the text of the Chumash or Torah and
turn it around to convert us. I've heard all the speeches and slept on a
lot of the dogma and it is just unfair. So much of the original Five Books
of Moses have been mistranslated and that has led to the trouble the Jewish
people have had over the centuries. I am trying to publish a young adult
series to be distributted in the secular world that will explain to
children, both Jewish and non-Jewish what traditional Judaism is in an
entertaining venu. People fear what they don't understand and perhaps with
this series the Jewish child will learn that his or her religion is nore
than eight colored candles a year and the non-Jewish child will realize that
Jewish kids have a religion that is just as sacred to them as Christianity
is to them. Our greater fight in this country is making sure that G-d isn't
thrown out of our lives and declared DOA at Bellvue. You've heard all the
garbage from removing G-d's name from the pledge to teaching the religion of
evolutionism in the classroom while declaring a belief in G-d a violation of
the separation of church and state. Even this phrase is a hoax, there was
never such a declaration. Our founding fathers wrote the constitution this
way in relation to religion.
A governor of a state can't stand up and declare that only one particular
religion can live in his state. That is the separation of church and state
and not the gobbledigook that you hear from the mainstream media. Wishing
you all the best, Judith
